Y3 Protyping module, Erasmus year UEM, Spain
The aim of this project was to build a prototype for an architectural element inspired by movement mechanisms found in nature, in this case, a butterfly’s tongue. This model consists of folding aluminium cubes connected to a series of reels, motors and light sensors programmed by arduino. When light intensity increases, the cubes unfold into linear elements creating an interesting three dimensional surface and providing shade. When light intensity decreases, the aluminium elements return to their resting cube form. I really enjoyed the opportunity to work with my hands, use a variety of tools and machinery, and develop my programming skills.
